Visas
The Nepalese Embassies and the Nepalese Consulates abroad provide
the Nepalese visa or upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International
Airport in Kathmandu. One has to produce a valid passport and two
copies of passport size photos along with the visa processing fees.
However, children under 10 years need not pay any visa fees. Gratis
visa is provided for all tourists who visit Nepal for 3 days or
less and also for tourist of SAARC countries and the Peoples' Republic
of China.
Indian nationals do not require visa to visit Nepal. However,
when traveling to Nepal they have to product upon arrival at entry
point either a valid passport or voter's Identity card issued by
the Election Commission of India. Children under 10 years need not
show any identifications. For students between the age of 10-18
years, School/ College photo ID card is valid.
Entry Procedure and Visa Rules
All visitors must hold valid passports and visa to enter Nepal.
The Nepalese Embassies and mission/consulates abroad or on arrival
at any entry points or the Immigration offices provide visa upon
presenting valid passport, two passport size photographs and payment
of visa fees. Tourists can extend their visas at the Department
of Immigration, Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. Entry Visa to Nepal is
easily available at International Airport of Nepal. Gratis visa
for all tourists who visit Nepal for 3 days or less and also for
tourist of SAARC countries and Peoples' Republic of China.

effective from October 2000, Indians traveling to Nepal by air have
to show upon arrival at entry point either a valid passport or voter's
identity card issued by the Election Commission of India. Temporary
identity card with photographs issued by Nepal-based Indian diplomatic
missions is considered in case of exception. Children under 10 years
need not show any identification. For students between the age of
10-18 years, School/ College photo ID card is valid.
Visa Fees and Extensions
Visa must be obtained for staying more than three days. Visa can
be extended for those who wish to stay for more than 60 days at
the Department of Immigration, Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. Children
under 10 years need not pay any visa fee. Two passport size photographs
are essential. First single entry to Nepal for 60 days from the
date of entry is US $ 30 or equivalent convertible foreign or Nepali
currency. The second entry in the same visa year for 30 days from
the date of entry is US $ 30.
Multiple entry for one visa year is US $ 50 plus US $ 30 for single
entry or equivalent convertible foreign or Nepali currency.
Business Visa
For foreign investors' business visa (with multiple entries) can
be obtained from the Department of Immigration for the period of
one year or five years upon the recommendation of the Ministry of
Industry by paying the equivalent of US $ 100 and US $ 250 respectively
in Nepalese currency.
Transit Visa
A transit visa can be obtained from Airport immigration or at
the entry point of Nepal without any problems. There will be no
charge for 3 days on presentation of a confirmed air ticket.
Non Tourist Visa
Who may apply : Following foreigners and
their family members can apply.
- foreigners involved in the social and economic development works
approved by Government of Nepal, under the expenses to be borne
by government institutions of the foreign nations
- foreigners having obtained recommendation from the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs to work in the institutions run by the foreign
missions located in Nepal,
- foreign representatives having obtained recommendation from
the Ministry of Information and Communications to work in foreign
newspapers and news agencies,
- foreigners having obtained recommendation from the concerned
Ministry to act as helpers of the foreigners having obtained diplomatic
or official visas,
- foreigners having obtained approval from Government of Nepal
to work on remuneration basis in any firm, company, association,
industry or enterprise within the Kingdom of Nepal
- foreigners having obtained recommendation from the Ministry
concerned to work in any international airlines organisation located
in Nepal,
- foreign importer visiting Nepal from third country on the recommendation
of foreign government agencies or Federation of Industries or
Chamber of Commerce of Foreign Country,
- foreigners who have marital relation with the citizens of Nepal
and furnish the marriage registration certificate, h1. If any
foreigner of Nepali origin or a foreign passport holder issue
of a Nepalese father or mother is to come to Nepal to visit any
relatives,
- foreigners who come to Nepal to work, on the recommendation
of the concerned Ministry pursuant to an agreement or understanding
agreed upon at governmental or non government level,
- foreigners having obtained recommendation of the concerned Ministry
to conduct feasibility study of an industry or enterprise for
a period not exceeding 6 months.
